Whether you love the taste of coffee or not, this rub and sauce recipe will make every mouth water at your next BBQ. We used some ingredients from our Backyard Blend spice recipe and added brown sugar and our favorite local Kansas City coffee, Blip Roasters, but you can use any brand you like.
Here’s the rub…
Back Porch Coffee Rub
In honor of our Backyard Blend sauce, we’re mixing this up on the back porch while making good conversation with our friends…
- 1/4 cup ground coffee
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (or your favorite type of sugar)
- 1/2 tablespoon ancho chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon celery
The day before you smoke the ribs, mix up the rub in a bowl. Before rubbing in, get a tablespoon of dijon mustard and vegetable oil and smear on the ribs. Then proceed to rub with the spice blend. Cover the ribs and place in the fridge over night. Smoke with your favorite type of wood chips. Every hour or so, I spray the ribs with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water (3 to 1 ratio in a spray bottle).
Coffee BBQ Sauce
This couldn’t be easier to whip up. Just save a little coffee and mix it with our Backyard Blend sauce…
- 1/2 cup KC Natural Backyard Blend
- 1/4 cup brewed coffee
Just mix the two ingredients together and you’ll perk up the neighborhood with these amazing flavors. You might want to make up an extra bit of sauce just to keep at the table.
Slather the sauce on the ribs about 20 minutes before you pull them off the smoker and enjoy!
